JDP Scholars

Each year the Jayda Dionne Scholarship Fund selects and honors an incoming freshman or current college student with a one-year scholarship. We are pleased to recognize our recipients who have demonstrated hard work, willingness to help others and determination against tremendous odds.

LaCrai Mitchell

Spring 2015 Inaugural Recipient

A highly accomplished senior at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, majoring in Broadcast Journalism. Ms. Mitchell is a Dean’s list student with a 3.93 GPA, who has interned at CBS News and at CNN. She has studied abroad, served as editor in chief of Journey Magazine, and served as a volunteer at a local high school. Ms. Mitchell, like Jayda, is an overcomer who “in the midst of everything she endured has found peace in knowing that there was someone bigger and greater than her adversity." Ms. Mitchell’s success “serves as a light on how to rise above adversity.”
