The JDP Scholarship Fund is very pleased to announce selection of an outstanding applicant for the first Jayda Dionne Parker Scholarship Award, Ms. LaCrai Mitchell, a highly accomplished senior at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, majoring in Broadcast Journalism. Ms. Mitchell is a Dean’s list student with a 3.93 GPA, who has interned at CBS News and at CNN. She has studied abroad, served as editor in chief of Journey Magazine and served a s volunteer at a local high school. Ms. Mitchell, like Jayda, is an overcomer who “in the midst of everything she endured has found peace in knowing that there was someone bigger and greater than her adversity.” Ms. Mitchell’s success “serves as a light on how to rise above adversity.” The Jayda Dionne Parker Scholarship Fund Board of Directors could not have hoped for a worthier first place applicant.
Two applications for the Spring 2015 scholarship stood out in addition to Ms. Mitchell’s. The Board, therefore, made two smaller awards, one to Brittany Collins, and the other to Jessica Bouyer, both outstanding FAMU School of Journalism and Graphic Communication students devoted to uplifting the community and who have overcome adversity while remaining committed to serving others and achieving their academic and career goals.
